About Ellene
Gwinnett County, Georgia native, Ellene Breedlove Davis spent her childhood in the rural South. Landscapes from these years inspire the romantic scenes she paints today.
Ellene recognized her interest in painting at the age of 39, and feels that the landscape is the Master Artist’s gift. Her goal as an artist is to honor him by using the gifts and tools she is privileged to.
Her inspiration comes from places she has visited and lived, especially the Blue Ridge Mountains. Living near Gainesville, GA in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ellene feels there are many possibilities for capturing her beautiful world each day in a watercolor painting.
Throughout her watercolor paintings she uses a gentle play of contrasts, portraying a feeling of peacefulness. Her strong composition and descriptive style capture the romance and peace of rural life that is Americana.
Using watercolor as her medium, Ellene’s paintings are her response to a natural world of rolling hills, lakes and streams, colorful gardens, winding paths and places of historical importance.
Continually studying on her own, under gifted teachers and group workshops has encouraged Ellene to develop her unique style of painting.
She joyfully shares her watercolor painting knowledge and talents with student artists in classes and workshops.
Ellene has participated in many group exhibits and 7 solo shows. Loving to communicate with her patrons and new people she meets, Ellene exhibits widely in gallery and art festivals.
Her work is in private collections nationwide.
